Gold Deathlayer

The Gold Deathlayer's appearance is one of their highest sought after qualities, with beautiful gold penciled feathers and black tails showing off purple/green iridescence. Their dark doll eyes, white ear lobes, tight cushion combs, and clean blue slate legs makes them very unique. These chickens have good temperaments, are excellent foragers, very athletic, and are cold tolerant.

The German name for the deathlayer is "Westfälische Totleger". Totleger translates literally to "death layer". There are two theories to how this chicken acquired its name. One theory is that the hens, being so productive, laid an egg a day until they died. The other is that it was originally called Dauerleger or "day layer". Either way, this rare heritage breed cannot be unnoticed with its enchanting beauty and curious personality.
